Man Cave Essentials (2021)

Site-specific Installation

'Man Cave Essentials' alludes to the cultural phenomenon of the 'man cave' in order to ridicule the notion of objects, and more extremely entire rooms, being only for men. The work aims to establish a relationship between the archaic views of modern masculinity and the way this is projected upon our understanding of 'cave men' in the Palaeolithic area. The objects themselves are arranged in a subtly phallic still-life, upon a creased sheet which in itself alludes to the ulterior role of the 'housewife', supposedly cleaning and ironing for the man.
