Hunter-Gatherer (2021)

Documents from a Performance

It is now understood that up to 75% of the earliest Palaeolithic cave paintings were made by women, indicating it was not only men that acted as hunter-gatherers in these ancient societies.

Using chalk, this performance marked rocks and natural surfaces with hand stencils of mine and my child's hands. The performance functioned as part of a daily walk, leaving the house in a manner evocative of paleloithic women leaving the cave.
